Building Today for a Better Tomorrow

In addition to writing a “Homestead Act” to counteract the depopulation of rural Montana, Bob set up the “Bob Candee Scholarship program” in Richey and Forsyth. In an incredible show of support for area students, Bob has been awarding these scholarships for the past 19 years.

Along with the program Bob has also given scholarships in Miles City, Skyview, Colstrip and other schools. These scholarships have been very rewarding for Bob because it gave him the opportunity to meet great kids that you would never have known. He is very proud that the first recipient of his scholarship program is now a doctor. (It pays to lead by example).

Experienced and Informed

Widely known for his farming and grain expertise, Bob was appointed by Governor Schweitzer to the Montana Wheat and Barley Committee in 2005, that year he also represented Montana at the U.S. Grains Council’s trade presentations in Tokyo, Japan.
Bob resigned this post so that he could run as a candidate for public office.

In 1996, Bob was chosen as a delegate to the first ever "National Issues Conference" in Austin, Texas. Many issues, ranging from national defense to welfare, were discussed. The conference was hosted by then governor George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore was there to represent President Clinton along with Jim Lehrer, who was the moderator. The conference voted Bob “BEST INFORMED” of all the delegates.

Bob is a proud parent, with a daughter, two sons and three granddaughters.

Candee said he wants to bring the federal government closer to the people, and has a plan to do it: A dozen House members at a time could hold periodic meetings at different locations around the country, including Montana, to get them out of Washington, D.C., to talk directly with people about their concerns.

Then, if Congress ignored the will of the people on an issue like country-of-origin labeling of meat products, "the people could be on 'em," he said.

"Democracy could be reborn," Candee said. "It could be the change this country needs."

Candee also isn't raising any money, and said he never cashed a check that Gov. Brian Schweitzer sent him for the 2006 campaign: "I just didn't feel right cashing it. I'm doing it on my own dime."
